Taitonga South Island Champs 2022

The 2022 Taitonga South Island champs will double as the 2022 Canterbury champs and will be held on Canterbury Show weekend (11th-13th Nov 2022).

NOTE: There has been a change to the advertised programme. Both the Long and Middle distance events will now be held on the Tekapo map, with the Long on Saturday and Middle on Sunday.

It will now consist of the following events:

Fri 11th Nov Evening sprint in Geraldine.
Starts from 6pm
Sat 12th Nov Long distance at Tekapo.
Starts from 10.30am
Sun 13th Nov Middle distance at Tekapo.
Starts from 10.30am

These are available to members of any orienteering club in the world.
These fees are available until Monday 31st Oct.

Non-Members: additional $10 Senior/$5 Junior per race.

For team entries, please create an individual entry for each team member. 
SI hire: Regular SI cards $3 per race, SIAC cards $6 per race.

Late entries:

For entries on/after Tuesday 1st Nov, a 50% late entry surcharge is applied. Late entries will be allocated a start time at the beginning of the start list, prior to all standard entries.
Final date for entry is Tuesday 8th Nov, no entries will be accepted after this date.

All event fees are in NZ dollars and include GST.

Payments:

Payment is by credit card only. Credit card payments will be taken as part of the entry process. 

Refund Policy: 

  • Refund of 90% of fees paid for withdrawals prior to standard entry fee close date (Mon 31st Oct).
  • Refund of 75% of fees paid  for withdrawals after standard entry fee date and before late entry close date (Tues 8th Nov).
  • No refund after Late entry close date.
  • To notify withdrawal from a race, fill out this form: SI Champs 2022 entry change requests 
  • Refunds will be processed after the event.

Entries on the day:
Entries will be taken on the day for the recreational grades only (subject to the availability of maps). These will be charged at standard individual race prices.

Start times:

Start times will be allocated and published prior to the events. Earliest start is 10.30am for the Middle and Long, 6pm for the sprint.

Punching system

The SportIdent (SI) punching system will be used in all  events with Si Air+ enabled. Both SI cards will be available for hire: regular cards at $3 per event, SIAC cards $6 per event.

M21E/W21E for seniors and M20E/W20E for juniors.

Competitive grades:
Grades are in 2-year bands up to age 18 and in 10-year bands for over 40s.

For those that want an easier navigational challenge or shorter course than the competitive grade.
Or for those going as a team or juniors being shadowed by parents.

If you have not run a red course before, we recommended you do not try your first red course at this event as the maps and courses are very technical. 

Group Accommodation:

PAPO has booked Raincliff scout camp (https://mackenzienz.com/tours/raincliff-scout-camp) to provide group accommodation over this weekend. This is about half way between Geraldine and Fairlie (50 minutes drive from Tekapo). 

This is booked for the Friday and Saturday night, providing a great opportunity for competitors to stay together and be social. The scout camp has bunks for 44 people plus plenty of space for tents. The costs per night are $30 per senior, $20 per junior for bunks, camping is available at $20 per senior, $10 per junior.
